President's Message
The election is over and state and local Leagues can now return to their ongoing duties and responsibilities studying important issues such as environment, municipal government, community issues such as gambling and education, as well as conducting legislator interviews. You can start by attending our annual elected officials’ reception, November 30, 2004. The reception is a League tradition that aims to recognize our elected and appointed officials and to thank them for their willingness to serve, as well as to connect the public with their elected representatives who they often hear about, but do not necessarily know. The League has invited city council members, county commissioners, judges, school board members and others. The reception is not only a chance for elected officials to meet and speak with constituents about their concerns, but an opportunity to meet and get acquainted with officials from other cities and departments. For those looking to get more involved, the reception is an excellent opportunity to help the League. We need volunteers to bring appetizers and beverages, to serve on the reception committee, to help decorate and to greet people at the reception. If you would like to be a part of the event, please email the League secretary, Deborah Ford at Deborah.ford@anico.com or call 765-7128.
